SOME MORE SAUDER RUGS ~ ~ ~

These two "walls" of rugs were really interesting. The wall at the right is an eclectic assortment ~ the "Tea and Oranges" rug is a stand-out! I love the border on the fruit bowl rug and Halloween rugs are always a winner!

Diane Kelley's cake rugs in the picture below are 'fanciful' in nature ~ they're fun and creative! Diane hooks in different styles including primitive, proddy, and the very artsy fun stuff! We stepped into her class at the hotel and people were working on all kinds of things ~ proddy chickens, sheep, wide cut scrolls (Gene Shepherd) ~ lots of great rugs in that room!

These two monochromatic rugs were really appealing ~ so restful to the eye. The postcard rug at the right is a beauty! So much detail and such beautiful coloring and shading.
The woman and baby rug appears to be hooked with nylon tricot that has been dyed these warm neutral colors. When we were in England, we learned that they use lots of nylon in their hooking, where we often use only wool. A rug I purchased from Cilla Cameron has nylon used for the pumpkin stems ~ it gives off kind of a shimmery glow! It was that shimmer in the woman and baby rug that made me realize the artist had used tricot as their hooking medium.

There are a couple of pictures I'll save for the next post ~ it takes me forever trying to line up the words and pix side by side ~ it doesn't really happen but at least you get to see some of the wonderful art that is rug hooking!

Have a good day!

Thanks so much, Alice, for taking the time to share these. I LOVE looking at others' work. That Mother and Baby...and the houses are quite amazing!!! Wish I could have been there to see them all in person...up close and personal!

Alice, your pictures are wonderful. How I wish we could take the time and had the money to visit this gathering. After reading your blog and Gene's, it's "almost" like being there but it's the "almost" that gets to me. I want to actually BE there.

Jacque and JoJo ~ We feel so fortunate to be 2 and a half hours away from Sauder! I wish I had taken even more time to see the rugs and wish I had recorded who hooked the ones I photographed. When I look at Gene's blog, I see rugs that I don't remember. My friend went the 2nd day and said there were not a lot of people so she really got to check out the rugs and shop in a quieter atmosphere. That first day was just a hubbub (if that's a word) of activity!! I'm glad you guys are out there and reading this stuff ~ I really appreciate your input!

Alice, I'm glad I found you on Snippets and on your blog. Between you and Gene, I get to see a lot of the rugs that were at Sauder without actually limping around the show hall. That...and my rug hooking cash stash is kind of low right now so I wouldn't have had the cash to spend. And the shopping is one of the best things about being there.

I had mentioned in passing the hook-in in Lincoln that's coming up in October. I hear Cammie Bruce isn't 'doing' it this year and it's being moved to Valley, NE. But hubby came home and asked me where Valley, NE is! Is is, could it, possibly, is it possible that he might be considering taking me to this one for my birthday? The hook-in is 4 days before my birthday so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I also have two aunts and an uncle (who's not doing well) in Lincoln so we could stop and see them also.

Anyway, I love your blog. Now that I'm more mobile, I might not be here as often as I was (I'm getting my life back and the housework is now all mine!). I try to stop in every day but I might not have the time to post. But I so appreciate your posting so many of the pictures.

I don't know how you do it....you remind me of the Energizer Bunny! But between your gardens, house, life, etc., I can live vicariously through you.

Oh, Jojo ~ you are a funny one!! I hope you are having fun living 'vicariously' thru me cause I'm dead on my keester most all the time!!!!!!!
Hopefully, your mister is planning a wonderful surprise for you!! There are so many camps I would love to attend also but we can only do so much!! If I get to a couple a year, I am so greatful and they must be fairly close to home!! Deanne Fitzpatrick is someone I would love to meet and take a class from ~ her work is so creative but she's in Nova Scotia ~ I'm reasonably sure that's not gonna happen! So we take advantage of the ones close by and hope that the Publishers Clearing House guy comes knocking at our doors, so we can go anywhere we want!! Until then, these blogs really keep us connected and let us in on things we might never otherwise see!!
Actually, when I spoke with Gene Shepherd at Sauder, we said we both wish we could meet YOU!!! And as much as I would miss your comments, if you are up and mobile and too busy ~ that is a wonderful thing!
Now I must finish some billing and it's 11 p.m. ~ that's how much fun I'm having!!
